Unlock Growth in 2024 by Understanding Strategic Change
As 2024 unfolds, change is a common theme. It seems that change is all around us - in our personal lives, family lives, politics, society, and in our businesses. That’s the reason that I decided that the overall theme for the blog this year is STRATEGIC CHANGE. Not so surprising since my business is the Center for Strategic Change.
Future posts will address:
Creating and sustaining strategic change
The difference between strategic change and change over which we have little control
Resilience despite the ups and downs of change
Embracing a holistic approach to your life, recognizing that business is only one aspect of your life
Tools and resources to help you succeed
Definition of Strategic Change
Here are several definitions of strategic change to help you frame future posts.
- “Strategic change is a change or changes to important features of an organization's business, for example, because of new threats or opportunities in its market.”
Cambridge English Dictionary
- “Strategic change refers to significant adjustments or modifications within an organization intended to enhance the company’s performance, market position, or operational effectiveness. These changes often align with the company’s long-term objectives or strategic vision.”
The StrategyStory.com
- “The deliberate and purposeful adjustments made to one's behaviors, habits, goals, or mindset in pursuit of personal growth, fulfillment, or success.” ChatGPT
Strategic Change Impacts Our Lives
While most definitions of strategic change focus on organizations, I want to broaden the definition to:
"Strategic change is a purposeful and planned transformation” … of your business or an element in your life.
It does not apply solely to organizations. During the last 30+ years, I’ve guided organizations through strategic change – through changing market conditions, growth, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, personnel issues, and more. I’ve observed the impact of strategic change extends far beyond the organization. Strategic change can be a useful process in our business, personal, and family life. To just accept that strategic change is for organizations, overlooks the powerful process and far-reaching impact when we embrace strategic change in aspects of our business, personal, and family life.
Throughout the year, I will continue to address strategic change as a “purposeful and planned transformation.” Perhaps it will be useful if you want to create a strategic change in your business, or perhaps your personal life, family life, or career/business life.
The principles used to create strategic change in organizations can also be effectively modified and applied to your life.
On that note, I’m wrapping this up with a wish for a very successful 2024.
